ZIMMERMANN SPRING 2025 PARIS FASHION WEEK

The Australian label’s new collection, Illumination, captures the harmony between humanity and nature, pulling from the sun soaked hues of 70s surf film Morning of the Earth.

In Able Falzon’s 1970s surf film, Morning of the Earth, the surfers are not the only protagonists. In fact, for viewers such as Creative Director Nicky Zimmermann, it is their counterparts — the morning sun, crisp breaking waves, and warm sand — that steal the show. Or rather, it is the symbiotic relationship between these natural phenomenons and the people who exist amongst them that crafts a mesmerising love story of connection, trust, and freedom. Rising to the will of a wave, moving to the rhythm of the sunbeams dancing on the shore, letting their cheeks get painted by golden hues and rainbow reflections like watercolours on canvas. The surfers and their surroundings are portrayed as one entity — and watching their story feels like gaining access to a whole new colour palette, seeing the vibrant beauty of the earth as it is meant to be seen.

“The film is a celebration of free-spirited surfers whose passion brought them closer to nature,” Zimmermann explains. “It’s so visually stunning – the way it captures the golden morning light and the colour of nature is just so inspiring. We leant into the aesthetics of the film more than surf itself – the irresistible way the film captures dappled light, the flowing movement of the sea and that feeling of harmony between surfer and nature.”
